MAYOR OF MARTON
(N.Z Press Association) WANGANUI, Aug. 18 Marton’s new Mayor is Mr E. V. Calkin, who. in a byelection yesterday, was provisionally elected with a majority of 655 votes over Mr F. Hotter The vacancy had arisen through the death six weeks ago of Mr W Meads, who had been Mayor for 13 years. For a by-election, there was the exceptionally good poll of 42 per cent The voting resulted:—E. V Calkin 918. F Hotter 263. informal 3 Majority for Calkin 655
