GOOD CHANCES FOR N.Z. HORSE TEAM

AUCKLAND. Aug. 18. New Zealand horses and riders competing in the international sports meeting at Tokyo in October should acquit themselves well, the manager of the team. Mr B G. Rutherford, of Christchurch. said in Auckland on Saturday. The four horses, two riders, ■nd Mr Rutherford will sail on the Kwangsi for Japan on Tuesday P Shemff. of Gisborne, and his horse Cyclone, and F Flipp. of Wellington, and Regal Ease, owned by Mr W Beatson, will be on the freighter. The other horses in the *hjp will be Rare and The Saint. Their riders. W Meech. of Hawke's Bay. and Miss Carolyn Law. of Gisborne, will remain in New Zealand until September 10 They will fly direct to Tokyo For five weeks the horses have been training under the Horse Society's official trainer. Mr C Bolgar, at his property in Hastings Mr Rutherford said: “I am very satisfied with their training.” He said the team would

compete in the All Japan Horse Show early in October The New Zealanders would then take part in a one-day horse event at the international meeting and ;wo-day show at the Avalon Riding Club in Tokyo on October 19 and 20 Mr Rutherford said the New Zealand horses had already been bought and insured by Japanese buyers They would take delivery on October 21.
