SIX PEOPLE INJURED

Collision At Tailiape (N.Z. Prtss Association) WANGANUI, Aug. 18. Six persons were injured, one seriously, when two cars collided on the new State highway about a mile and a half north of Taihape yesterday. The accident occurred a short distance south of Bradleys sawmill, at Bennetts siding, about 6.30 p.m. One car contained five members of the Tailiape Pirates’ Football Club, returning from a match at Raetihl. The car was driven by J. D. Fannin, who was accompanied by three other players, A. R. Logan, M. Shirley, and K. T. Cribb, and the team manager, Mr W. G. Coleman. The other car was driven by Mr M. Barrett, of Pukeokahu, Taihape, and was travelling north. He was accompanied by his wife, five children, aged from 12 months to six years, and a friend, Mr T. Hekenui. also of Pukeokahu. One child, James Barrett, aged three, was slightly injured.

The football players’ car ended on the left side oJ the road, caught fire. Mid was burnt out The Taihape Volunteer Fire Brigade was celled and extinguished the fire.

Those admitted to hospital were:

Anthony Randle Logan, of Hihitahi, bead injuries, condition serious. Whitford George Coleman, of Kaka road, Taihape. broken cheek bone, condition satisfactory. John David Fannin, of Papakai road, Taihape, fractured ribs and lacerations to the righit knee, condition satisfactory.
