Removal Of Piha Rock

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 15. The giant sliding rock above the Piha road is being drilled to take small explosive charges in the first stage of plans to remove it For some time the rock has threatened to slip across the road. Small explosive charges wUI be used to break the rock, because large charges could start it sliding again. The 6000 tons of rock to be removed will be blown off in small sections into a hole left by the rock when it moved down the hill.
