SUPERVISOR DISMISSED
70 Men Stop Work (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 16. Seventy fitters and electricians employed by the Otis Elevators Company, Auckland, today stopped work in a dispute with the management over the dismissal of a field supervisor. The men, members of the Eigineers’ Union and the North Island Electrical Workers’ Union, asked the management to reinstate the supervisor who had worked fo the company for 23 years The management refused and. after the men stopped work placed the dispute in the hands of the Labour Department.
Mr L. C. J. Bailey, man-aging-director of Otis, said the supervisor had been given six months’ pay with his notice. Re-organisation of the company had made it necessary to end his employment The company had also offered to write an unqualified reference for the man tor any new position he sought.
