Wicks, SM, in the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington today. Roseman first appeared on June 14. pleading not guilty to charges of importing prohibited goods, smuggling a car, and making a misleading declaration with intent to defraud. Today, Mr J. D. On the remaining two charges Roseman was fined the maximum £lOO on each charge, plus Court costs £1 10s and solicitor’s fees £l5 15s. The car will be forfeited. “At the hearing of the evidence I was prepared to believe Roseman was attempting to arrange his affairs to comply with the law,” said the Magistrate. “On reading the notes of evidence more closely. I found he deliberately conceived a scheme to defraud the Customs Department. “Because I felt these offences were deliberate, an ingenious scheme which did not come off. I have no hesitation in fining him the maximum.”
