Fires Break Out In Sitting-rooms

A fine which broke out at 9.24 am. yesterday in the sibting-coom of a house at 128 street, owned by Mr M. Thompson, damaged a carpet and destroyed a settee. The fire was put out by units from the Central and Sydenham stations. Units from these stations '23d been called, threequarters of an hour earlier, to a fine in the sitting-room of a house owned by Mrs E. J Stott at 53 Stanbury avenue. The fire burnt a carpet and a door before it was put out It started in a woodbox.

Seventy-six persons gave blood when the North Canterbury Blood Transfusion Service mobile unit visited the premises of Andersons Ltd. Thirty-four of them were new donors. The service has now received 314 points of blood from 120 persons in five visits an Anderson's.
