“THE OUTLAWS”

Reply To Protest By Women

Programmes in “The Outlaws” series are approved by the New Zealand film censor for G or Y certificates. This was the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation’s reply to a letter from the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women. The letter, read at last evening’s meeting of the branch, said that films given a G rating were suitable for general exhibition. Films with a Y certificate were also approved for general exhibition but recommended as suitable for persons aged 13 and over. They may not be played before 8.30 pun. “The Outlaws” was played at 9.49 p.m. in Christchurch during the time scheduled 'or A (adults) certificate films, the letter said.

Delegates expressed dissatisfaction with the reply. One delegate said that while the censor was “saving us from depravity,” he was not necessarily allowing a high standard to be maintained.
