JURY SERVICE FOR WOMEN
M.P.s To Support Legislation
Any legislation enabling women to serve on juries on the same basis as men should inelude some safeguard for women who did not wish to serve, said Mr M. A. Connelly, M.P., in a letter read at last evening's meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women.
He was replying to a telegram sent to him from the branch seeking his support for proposed legislation bringing in compulsory jury service for women. Providing a suitable safeguard could be included in the legislation, he would support it, Mr Connelly said in his letter.
Mr H. J. Walker, the member of Parliament for St Albans, also assured the council of his support for the proposed legislation.
