RETURN OF FISHING POOL ATTRACTION

One of the largest of the commercial stands and displays at the Fair will be the I.G.A. Food and Allied Products Fun Show, which will occupy a 3200 square feet space in the Number 2 Pavilion.

For the last two year's, this company’s exhibit has taken the form of a Grand Prix, but for the 1963 show they are reverting to the display which proved most attractive at the 1959 and 1960 Industries Fairs—the Fishing Pool. The display will incorporate the stands of 18 manufacturers, and each of

these will contribute five products to the Fishing Pool. The pool itself, a tank with a glass-plated side for easy viewing of the action, has no water but appears realistic in all respects.

Competition will be free, and rods and reels will be provided for all competitors. When the event begins, the first two or three to hook a product will receive those products free. All the products are wrapped and have a brass ring on the top for easy “catching.”

Another feature of the stand will be a competition, for which valuable grocery prizes will be offered, one to each day. The competition takes the form of a questionnaire to be filled out and handed in, and the names of all the winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Fair.

How many coffee beans are in the jar? This will be another competition and the, answer may prove surprising.

One of the stands in this display will feature the company’s colouring rhyme and alphabet book, which has been produced for the benefit of the Crippled Children Society. The company is selling these books for Is each all over the country, and the gross proceeds will go to the society, which is expected to benefit by an amount going into five figures. The books on sale at the Fair will be the first to be released in the Canterbury area. In the evenings, the controller of the show, Jack Carter, and his assistant, Jenny Williams, will arrange the presentation of variety shows featuring guest artists.
