METAL TRADES SEEKING APPRENTICES

'An unusual display at the fair will be the exhibition arranged by the Canterbury Manufacturing Engineers and Metal Trades Group of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. This will take the form of a dis-

play which aims to encourage young men to seek ap-

prenticeships in the various branches of the engineering industry. A large proportion of this 1000 square feet stand will be devoted to the display of a working engineering factory. This will include three lathes, and threading machine and a tool cutter and grinder, all in constant operation. There will also be a welding bay. Two engineers’ workbenches have been installed

on the stand and apprentices will be doing assembly work on them. Another section shows various aspects of engineering production in Canterbury factories. This will include a display of dies and moulds, a display by the National Airways Corporation workshops, and another showing how cable is made. A cut-away model of a motor-car engine will also be on show.
