Stella Maris Now At Riccarton

Stella Maris, winner of two races in the North Island last season, was bought recently by Mr R. Shaw, who will train her at Riccarton. She is a five-year-old by Able Seaman from Valiant Maid (by Te Hero), and started her four-year-old raci“g with an easy win at New Plymouth last August. Two starts later she won a hack sprint at Gisborne by s x lengths, but her form then fell away. Sal’s Pride has finished racing and will be mated this season with Rondabelle’s sire. Bellborough She was a winner from I. McClure’s Riccarton stable last spring, but showed no form in a light programme this year, and went sore a few’ days before the Grand National meeting. Sal's Pride is a six-year-old

mare by Callander from the useful Salmagundi mare. Some Sal, and is owned by Mr P. J. Boyle, of Invercargill. Caplin, another member of the McClure team, also had to miss racing at the Grand National meeting because of a cold. The only active members of the team at present are Gay Filou and Melodic.

Gay Filou. one of New Zealand’s best stayers last season, may start another campaign in one of the sprint races at Ashburton.

Llanmai To Resume "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. August 15. Llanmai. which last raced in the Challenge Stakes at the Canterbury autumn meeting, has returned to D. P. Wilson's Wingatui stable in top condition to start another preparation. He had only eight starts last season. He won twice and was placed four times for £3450 in stake money. "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. August 14.

Aquinas, which was previously trained at Invercargill, is now a member of H. A. and H. T. Anderton s stable at Wingatui. The Targui seven-year-old had only two starts last season and was placed on both occasions. One of his best efforts was at the 1960 New’ Zealand Cup meeting where he scored impressively over a mile and a quarter in the Ashley Hack Handicap.
