Bold Venture At Wingatui

Bold Venture. Friar's Birthday. and Captain Morgan were three of the most Impressive trialists at Wingatui this morning, when the final gallops for the Otago Hunt meeting were held under ideal overhead conditions after a light frost. The work was held on the sand track, which provided good footing. Ridden by his trainer. A. I. Powell. Bold Venture gave a daShing display to complete a round of pace work by oomiing home the last three furlongs In He Is one of the early favourites for the G. J. Barton Memorial Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. Friar's Birthday (R. J. Skelton) enhanced his prospects for the Trial Stakes by shading his brother. Birthright (T. Powell), at the end of half a mile in 52 2-ssec. the opening furlong in 12 2-ssec Friar’s Birthday has done well since his. last start, when he ran second to Modem Imp at Invercargill in January. Captain Morgan (J. R. Dowling) appeared to be galloping easier than Cluny Bill (M. F Dowling) at the end of five furlongs in Imin 5 4-ssec. the first two furlongs in 25 3-ssec. Captain Morgan will revert to flat racing in the Tally Ho Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double, and on his recent showing he is a fit candidate. , Over the same ground Robin s Guitar (J. R. Dowling) ran a length and a half clear of Yomai (M. F. Dowling) in Imin 7 sec. Now or Never (M. Land rebel appeared to be galloping easily alongside Peter James (E. J. Didham i clear of Silver Field (R. Wilder), in Imin Bsec. the first two furlongs in 26sec. Summer Star (M. Landrebe) could have improved on her effort in finishing In line with Sen (W. C. Gye) and Glenmorven (E. J. Didham). in 1:8 4-5. the first two furlongs in 25 2-5 sec. All three were easing up at the finish.
Grand Monarch <G. Mclntyre) and Waaco (R. J. Skelton) were together over six furlongs in 1:26 3-5. the first three furlongs in 43sec.
Myfilou May Not Run

Myfllou is a doubtful starter in the Taieri Handicap, the mile event for hacks at the Otago Hunt meeting. The Le Filou gelding was runner-up to the long shot, Meandering, in the Sumner Handicap on the second day of the Grand National meeting. but he has not trained on to the satisfaction of his trainers since he returned home.
