Supreme Court. MAN FINED £50
Driving Caused Injury Allan Henry Mangels, aged 30 a driver, was yesterday fined £5O and had his driving licence cancelled for three months for negligent driving causing injury. Mangels was found guilty on this charge by a jury in the Supreme Court on August 9. Mr Justice Wilson will grant an application made by Mangels for permission to drive vehicles such as road machines in the course of his employment. For Mangels, Mr P. G. S Penlington said that the accident resulted from a momentary lapse of attention. The girl cyclist, who was injured, was strack by a protruding rear-vision mirror of a type which was not required by law on the truck, he said. His Honour commented that Mangels must be responsible for the management of the vehicle which he was driving whatever attachments it had at the time.
Mr I. C J. Polson appeared tor the Crown.
Rogue And Vagabond John Arthur Tahere. aged 22. a workman, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for being a rogue and a vagabond on April 12. in that he was unlawfully found on enclosed premises at night Tahere pleaded guilty to this charge in the Supreme Court on August 8 Mr G. D G. Bailey, for the prisoner, said that his client's activities on this property were the act of an impulsive man rather than of a hardened criminal. He asked for a monetary penalty. Sentencing Tahere. his Honour said that he had previously had two terms of probation, and had not responded properly.
