TROTTING PERMITS

Statement By Minister (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 15. Recent suggestions by Mr H. M. Allen, president of the North Island Trotting Trainers’ and Horsemen’s Association. implying that his association had made more progress by approaching members of Parliament directly than had the New Zealand Trotting Conference by working through official channels, were commented on today bv the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Leon Gotz).

“I can assure trotting enthusiasts that the Trotting Conference has been very active in pressing for ex -a totalisator days for trotting meetings, and has made repeated representations to me on the subject,” said Sir Leon Gotz.

These representations and others from the New Zealand Racing Conference had been most carefully considered by the Go-, rnment. After study of all relevant factors it had been decided not to introduce legislation in the meantime.

“I hope that something can be done to meet the representations of the Trotting Conference, which the Gov-e.-Mient rega Is as the official spokesman for trotting interests, and of the Racing CtaHTerence in the not too distant future,” said Sir Leon Gotz.
