MARCHING TEAMS WANTED

Display At Annual Charity Meeting

The annual Combined News-papers-Police Charity Day is this year to be held on Sunday, September 22. The secretary of the charity dav committee (Mr I. C. Jackways) informed the executive committee of the Canterbury Marching Centre of this in a letter received at the last meeting. Mr Jackways also asked for the centre’s assistance in making marchin* teams available on this day. “The colourful display put on by the marching teams is very favourably commented upon by spectators," he said. Although the charity day is prior to the opening of Uie marching season. Mr Jackways is to be Informed that a considerable number of teams will be available to take part. The Immediate past president of the New Zealand Marching Association (Mr W I. McKay) will not be lost to the administration of the sport in the country. Mr McKay has been appointed as the Canterbury councillor to the newly-formed national council.

Other officials of the Canterbury centre appointed were:— Chief recorder. Mr W. M. Hollands: chief marshal and display officer. Mr R. L.Cox; chief instructor, Mrs D. Marshall: registrar. Mrs J. Rowlands: publicity officer. Mr R. M. Cairns: radio and TV officer. Mr W O’Connor: announcer. Mr H. E. Timpson. The official bands are the Metropolitan Highland Pipe and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Bras*.
