PREMARITAL SEX

Sociologist’s Opposition (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. The visiting Texan sociologist, Dr. Henry Bowman, strongly opposes pre-marital sex relations. A member of a Lower Hutt audience asked him if an inference in a recent broadcast that he approved such relations was a correct inference. “Most certainly not,’’ replied Dr. Bowman. "With all emphasis or vehemence, I want to get this point stright: In no circumstances would I put myself in favour of pre-marital sex relations. I find myself on only one side, the side of premarital discipline.’’

Dr. Bowman said such relations were terribly costly to human life, suffering and values. “Too many people have been damaged by it. By these relations, young people undercut their objectives of happy marriage, which itself requires discipline.” Pre-marital sex relations was not the road to a happy marriage. All arguments in favour of that behaviour were invalid, he said.
