Theft Charge Appeal

The sentence imposed on John Rata, aged 42, in the Magistrate's Court on July 12 for the theft of an overcoat was varied by Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday. Rata had been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, cumulative on sentences imposed on other charges on the same day. His Honour varied this to a six months’ sentence concurrent with Rata’s other sentences. Mr N. W. Williamson appeared for the Crown. Rata was not represented. Appeal Dismissed ,

An appeal by Te Awamarahi Tuhuru. aged 22, against a sentence of six months’ imprisonment imposed in the Magistrate’s Court on July 12 on a charge of attempted burglary at Paparua on June 28 was dismissed.
