Two Heatings At Mine

(N,Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. July 23. Two heatings have occurred in the Wairakei mine at Ohai. one on Monday and the other today. Although the district manager of the Mines Department at Ohai declined to comment, the under-Secretary of Mines (Mr P. M. Outhwaite) confirmed tonight that the heatings had occurred but said neither was serious. They were of a kind which happened with the class of coal mined at Wairaked and it was necessary as a precaution to close the mine for 48 hours. This was by an arrangement which existed between the inspectors and the miners.

Mr Ou th waite said it was expected mining would be resumed on Thursday.
