Shifnal Wins At Werribee
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 24. Shifnal, a brother to the former brilliant Sydney gallopers, Todman and Noholme, easily won the Second Two-year-old Handicap at Werribee today, at his first start in a race. Ridden by J. Purtell. Shifnal led practically all the way to win by two and a half lengths from Power. Station and Nastina. When betting opened. 3/1 was the general quote about Shifnal, but one bookmaker was rushed when he offered 8 to 1. When the rush came for Shifnal the colt firmed to 5 to 4 at which price he started favourite. Shifnal is trained a* Caulfield by Angus Armanaseo, who said the colt had been given time to mature because he wm delicate earlier in his training.
