CHOLERA
87 Die In Thailand (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) BANGKOK. July 24. Medical teams and mergency stocks of anticholera vaccine were rushed today to south Thailand where at least 87 persons are reported to have died from cholera. Unofficial reports said there were over 200 cases of cholera. The Government was taking emergency measures to prevent the northward spread of the epidemic. Vaccination stations have been set-up at main train and bus stations. Travellers to and from the south are being required to show vaccination certificates. A Health Ministry spokesman said the disease had apparently been brought to Thailand from Malaya by fishermen plying between the two countries. A “mystery disease” was reported to have broken out in the south last week but it was laiter officially described as acute diarrhoea. After extensive tests in Government laboratories, the Health Ministry announced yesterday that the disease was cholera.
