Book-Binding
Sir, —The article end picture in ‘ ‘The Press” this morning. showing the boys from Shirley Boys’ High School repairing their books, was of very great interest and the boys and Mrs Collins deserve the highest praise. The Sir John McKenzie Memorial Children’s Library at Church Comer, Upper Riecarton, has been doing the same thing now for nearly eight years The work in this case is done by mothers, who are also the librarians. All this work is done voluntarily. These mothers also received instruction from the Canterbury Public Library and repairs and book-binding in a most professional manner are carried out on the 4600 books in the library. The Paparua County Council commented on the saving to the ratepayers. Unfortunately no record has ever been made to show the actual saving but it must run into hundreds of pounds. This information should be of value to other libraries who would like to do the same thing.—You-s, etc., LIBRARIAN July 24, 1963.
