DEEP COVE ROAD
Sightseeing Prohibited (N.Z. Pros* Association) INVERCARGILL, July 24. No tourist or member of toe public will be allowed on toe Wilmot Pass track while the road from the west arm of Lake Manapouri to Deep Cove in Doubtful Sound is being built, the project manager for the Bechtel Pacific Corporation (Mr N. Long) said today. The Bechtel Corporation is the Government's consultant in the £3 million Manapouri power project. Mr Long said toe corporation and the contractors, Utah, Williamson. Burnetts, had asked the Government to close the area while toe road was being built. This was done entirely from toe safety viewpoint. However, when the road was completed, late next year, arrangements would be made through toe tourist department for guided tours to travel over the west armDeep Cove road and tn tour toe Deep Cove area where the contractors will have their base for the £9380,000 tadrace tunnel drive.
