C.W.I. Meeting Held In Blenheim

“Women are a power in the world today and we can, and will, bring peace through friendship and understanding," Mrs N. W. B. Schoder, vice-president of the South Pacific area of Associated Country Women of the World, told the Dominion Federation of Country Women’s Institutes’ biennial council meeting at Blenheim last week. A.C.W.W. had 6.5 thillion members throughout the world, working with the same ideals and purposes as the New Zealand federation, she said.

Mrs E. D. Holt, president of the Dominion Federation, said: “Through our affiliations we have great opportunities for promoting international friendship and goodwill betwen country women of all nations.”

With the underlying objects of home-making, cooperation and good citizenship members of C.W.I. had helped improve conditions of rural life in New Zealand in the 42 years since the first institute had been founded, she said.

Thanking Marlborough, the hostess federation, for their hospitality, Mrs Holt made a presentation of a pottery urn for the federation rooms. It was decided by the council to take action on three remits which were discussed: That the attention of woollen mills be brought to the increasing number of knots in wool, and that

weights were sometimes short by up to 2oz per lb; That the Railways Department be asked to mark railway stations more clearly with luminous

signs. That, owing to the high cost of surgical stockings, the Government be approached to include help under the medical bene- ( fits scheme, for aged beneficiaries and invalids.
