ELLESMERE TRAGEDY
Search For Bodies A search yesterday for the bodies of three persons drowned in a boating accident at Lake Ellesmere during the week-end was fruitless. The search will be continued today. Those drowned were Swinton James Teale, his son, George, aged 12, and Keith Murray Bateman, aged 13, all of Ashburton. Three fishing boats and police shore patrols searched yesterday under the direction of Senior-Sergeant E. S. Tuck, of the Christchurch Central Police Station. The fringe of the 107 square-mile lake was searched thoroughly. The boats also searched near the outlet and also an area a mile off the mouth of the Selwyn river, where the submerged boat, which those who were drowned were using, was seen from the air on Sunday. "The three commercial fishermen, Messrs J. Bowls, J. Alexander and A. Freeman, have been splendid. We have also had great cooperation from farmers and others in the area,” SeniorSergeant Tuck said last evening. The police patrol comprised Sergeants G. E. Hoar and M. A. Elam and constables from Leeston Lincoln and Little River. Patrols would continue the search today under Constable A. Wilson, of Leeston, Senior-Sergeant Tuck said. Launches would be used again if the weather allowed IL
