No Trace Of Youth Missing In Sounds

(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, July 22. No trace had been found by nightfall today of a 19-year-old youth, Neil Lester, of Christchurch, who has been missing in hilly bush-clad country at the back of Manaroa Bay, Pelorous Sound, since early yesterday morning.

Lester yesterday left the property of Mr G. M. Rogers, where he is employed, on a shooting expedition. He carried a rifle and sufficient food f. 4 a day but when he had not returned this morning fears were held for his safety and settlers organised a search. Late this afternoon one of the search parties found about 10 rounds of live ammunition two to three miles back from Manaroa and in fairly high country. Immediate searches around the locality of the find- were unsuccessful but this evening further parties of settlers, some of whom have come long distances by launch, set out for the scene. Tomorrow the searchers will be augmented by mem-

bers of the Search and Rescue Organisation from Blenheim and an aerial reconnaisance is scheduled for first light if conditions permit. Today low cloud has ruled out any aerial activity. Lester is an experienced bushman. Police and settlers tlJnk he may have had an accident which has incapacitated him.
