TASMANIAN VISIT

Y.F.C. Member Selected

Mr A. Barr, a 22-year-old Young Farmers’ Club member of Albury, South Canterbury, was elected in Christchurch yesterday to spend three months in Tasmania next year. The exchange visit, which is being made possible by the assistance of the Bank of New Zealand, was open to members of the Young Farmers* Club movement in the area of the Canterbury council, and seven young men from the Waimate, Timaru, Mid-Canterbury, Christchurch, North Canterbury, Marlborough, and West Coast districts were interviewed yesterday. The selectors were Messrs J. U. Barclay, D. M. Lili, T. E. Streeter, and J. A. Johnson. Mr S. N. S. Crump, assistant manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Christchurch, was also present. Mr Barr, who was educated at the Albury Primary School and Timaru Technical College, works on his father’s 300-acre farm at Albury, which carries 1000 Romney ewes. He is chairman of the Albury Young Farmers’ Club Interested in water ski-ing, ice skating, and gliding, he is junior vice-president of the Albury Ice Skating Club, and a member of the committee of the South Canterbury Gliding Club.
