HANDBAGS BLAMED

Fibrositis In Women

A heavy handbag is one of the major causes of fibrositis in women, according to the chairman of the Empire Rheumatism Council, Dr. William Copeman.

Women were more subject to fibrositis than men. Dr. Capeman said recently. By carrying heavy handbags and over-loaded shopping baskets, women placed an unnatural strain on their shoulder muscles, which often were not properly developed through lack of exercise. A survey carried out recently in London showed that the average woman carries around with her a weight of between five and 18 pounds. This varied from handbags loaded with make-up. papers, money, shopping and address books, and numerous odds and ends, to a shopping bag carried in addition to a handbag.
