The £ gained on the United States and Canadian dollars and on most of the principal European currencies last week. telegraphic transfer exchange rates as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales:— New Zealand on— New York: buying. 2.7968 dollars to £NZ (compared with 2.7962 dollars on July 1); selling. 2.7651 dollars (2.7645). Canada; 3.0162 dollars (3.0142); 2.9777 dollars (2.9757). Belgium: 140.40 francs (140.30); 137.30 francs (same). France: 13.78 francs (same); 13.49 francs (13 48). Italy: 1749 lire (1748); 1712 lire (1711). Netherlands: 10.14 guilders (10.13); 9.92 guilders (9.91). Austria: 72.56 schillings (72.54); 71.01 schillings (70.99). Denmark: 19.40 crowns (19.39); 18.98 crowns (same). Norway: 20.10 crowns (20.09); 19.67 crowns (19.66). Spain: on buying quote: selling. 164.60 pesetas (164.80). Switzerland: 12.17 francs (same); 11.90 francs (11.91).
C.B.A. Div. Steady.—Th* Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., is holding a steady 10 per cent, ordinary dividend for 1962-63. Ttie final 5 per cent., which follows the interim of the same amount, will be paid on August 23. A final 2 per cent, preference payment will also be made on the same day.—IN.Z.P.A.) Portfolio Gain.— Although the number of units issued by the first Dominion unit trust eased by about 7000 to 775.157 in the six months to May 31, replacement value of the trust fund
rose from £158.572 to £165,752. Dividend is 6s on each 100 units, the same, as that paid in the corresponding period of last year.—(P.A.)
