Silver Plough Finalist

(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON N„ July 7. A Takapau farmer, T. B. Bayliss, yesterday reached the New Zealand finals of the Atlantic Silver Plough event. He won the Atlantic qualifying event in the Manawatu Ploughing Match Association’s first annual match at Shannon. The final will be held at Rotorua on July 20 and the winner will go on to the world ploughing championship in Canada on October 10 and 11.

One of the judges, Mr N. H. Kittow, of Hawke’s Bay, said that except for the first three place-getters, the standard was not high. The other competitors were only beginners and the field chosen for the event demanded skill. Result: T. B. Bayliss (Takapau) 1. R. Luckies (Carterton) 2, S. Price (Levin) 3.
