DEFEAT FOR B TEAM
Second Loss To Club Canterbury B suffered its second defeat to a club team when it was narrowly beaten by Y.M C.A, 50-46. in the curtainraiser to the live telecast match, played at the W. J. Cowies Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The result was much as expected for Y.M.C.A., the leading team in the. A grade inter-club competition, included three current Canterbury A representatives. The margin of defeat would undoubtedly have been much greater if Y.M C.A. had been able to reach its usual high standard of team play. Known for their superb combination, the Y.M.C.A. players for once appeared to be badly disjointed and most of their points came from individual efforts. However. it was enough to give them victory. In almost complete contrast, the Canterbury B representatives excelled themselves. They played much better than they did against Burnham and their style of play, if not copy-book was at least upsetting to None of the YMCA, players managed to find form. Even P. Simpson, who scored 24 points, played poorly. He missed many comparatively easy lay-up shots and was inclined to take shots when he would have been far better to have given the ball to another player better positioned. R. Bumby, R. Entwistle and G. Dempsey scored six points each. For Canterbury. B. J. Steed was the outstanding player. His positional play was good and he managed to score 12 valuable points, mainly from lay-up shots. J. Peyton. who also scored 12. was not so competent. His work under the basket was eood. but his passing was shocking J. McArthur who scored 10. showed a good eye for the opening.
