Servicemen Released
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) ADEN, July 4 The 16 British servicemen captured inside the Yemen 11 days ago were released and flown to Aden today. Their leader, Major Walter Ormerod, of the Lancashire Fusiliers, said “blood money’’ had probably been promised before they were set free.
He said Egyptian and Yemeni interrogators had asked them to apologise for “Ibeir aggression on Yemeni territory.” They had refused but “we apologised for trespassing.” The 16 servicemen were in a party of 45 men and women ambushed by Yemenis when they accidentally crossed into Yemen during a week-end adventure training course. Four were shot dead, 19 escaped the ambush, and four women and two sick men were returned. United States and diplo T matic negotiators had sought the men’s release. Britain so far has refused to recognise Yemen’s republican government.
