IMPRESSED BY N.Z.
Australian Travel Party (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 30. The chief impression gained by nine executives of Australian travel agencies who returned to Sydney todpy after sampling a sevenday off season “package tour” of the North Island was that New Zealand’s tourist attractions were being sadly undersold abroad.
After visiting Matamata, the Chateau, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Wairakei, Waitomo and Auckland, the Australians expressed amazement that so much variety of scenic and sporting attractions could be packed into so small an area, and that so much could be seen and done in such a short time.
These sponsored tours are designed to bring tourism within the reach of the ordinary Australian - family man and include return air-fare, rental car hire and motel accommodation for the seven days, all for about £ABO. The Australians were impressed by the motorway entrances to cities such as Hamilton and Auckland. They also found the general standard of highways excellent, and that the clear signposting by the Automobile Association made driving conditions very easy for overseas visitors.
