NOTIFIABLE DISEASES
Pulmonary tuberculosis accounted for half he cases of notifiable diseases reported in the Christchurch health district last month. Of 26 cases 13 were of tuberculosis of the lung, two of tuberculosis of other sites, eight of infective hepatitis, and one each of pemphigus neonatorum, malaria. and tetanus.
The infective hepatitis figures were the lowest for any May since 1957. In May 1962. there were 17 cases. The tetanus patient, a young woman who contracted the disease after spiking herself while gardening, was treated in the Princess Margaret and Christchurch hospitals, but has now been discharged.
