TWO RETURN FOR KIWIS

Team To Play Queensland

Press” Special Service BRISBANE, June 13.

Two of New Zealand’s injured players, J. R, Butterfield and S. K. Edwards, are fit again and will play in the Rugby League match against Queensland at Brisbane on Saturday. The team is: Full-back, J. E. Fagan; wings, K. R. McCracken, B. T. Reidy; centres, R. W. Bailey, G. M. Kennedy; five-eighths, J. A. Bond; halfback, W. L. Snowden; loose forward, M. L. Cooke; second row. B. S. Lee. R. C. Ackland; front row, S. K. Edwards, H. K. Emery; J. R. Butterfield.

Butterfield has missed the last five matches because of a rib injury, but although still strapped up yesterday at training, is nearly recovered. Edwards did not play in the last four games because of a leg injury. Ten of first test side are includfed. The omission of R. D. Hammond in the second row came as a surprise. The manager, Mr G. Plant, has said that there may be changes in the Kiwi side for the second test. Lee, who has replaced Hammond, might be considered for this berth, although Hammond has been playing magnificent football.

Three players missed training yesterday because of injuries—H. R. Sinel (injured ankle), J. E. Spardon (twisted ankle) and C. L. McMaster (stomach complaint). G. C. Blackler trained with his broken finger in plaster but is not expected to return to football for about a fortnight. G. R. Phillips trained by himself, and although the swelling on his leg has gone down, he is still doubtful for the second test.

Injuries seem to be hitting the forwards rather than the backs. Emery has now played more games than any other tourist —seven out of nine.

The Kiwis were given a strenuous two-hour training session following their indifferent display against Toowoomba. The coach, Mr W. Telford, kept them at their task and introduced some tough exercises.
