Road Tunnel Fan
This is one of four 12ft axial flow fans, each driven by a 100 h.p. motor, to be used to ventilate the Christ-church-Lyttelton road tunnel. The fans, made in Melbourne, have hollow welded steel blades of aerofoil pattern. Two fans are to be placed at each end of the tunnel. One of each pair pro-
vides fresh air, while the other exhausts stale air and automobile fumes. Each fan is capable of moving 320,000 cubic feet of air a minute. They are designed to ensure a continuous supply of fresh air in the road-tunnel. The fans must also be capable of exhausting the tunnel of a large volume of toxic gases.
