MARGINAL FARMS
Action Sought In Buller
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 13
Federated Farmers’ dairy section will ask the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) to investigate the marginal situation of agriculture in the Buller Valley area and recommend to the Government “positive corrective pressures.” At the section’s conference today the chairman (Mr R. Woolerton), said this was one area neglected in Government programmes. Mr J. H. Ferguson (Auckland) questioned whether the request should be limited to a specific area. It was possible other areas, such as Northland,- were similarly affected. The original motion had suggested investigation of the “uneconomic situation,” but “marginal” was substituted for “uneconomic” on the suggestion of Dr. O. F. Haylock, who earlier asked if the idea was to support uneconomic farming when Federated Farmers were attacking uneconomic industries Mr Woolerton said the area was not necessarily uneconomic, but some adjustment might be required.
