S.E.A.T.O. EXERCISE
Christchurch Men Together
Two Christchurch men who are parachutist platoon commanders and who were instructors together at the school of infantry at Waiouru, and were commissioned together, are taking part in the S.E.A.T.O. ground defence exercise in Thailand. They are Lieutenants D. A. Dawe and J. A. Dixon. •
Lieutenant Dawe, formerly of London, served with the Ist Middlesex Regiment in Hong Kong from 1949-50 and later with the 11th Parachute Battalion. In 1956 he joined the New Zealand Regular Army and became an instructor at the school of infantry at Waiouru until he was commissioned in 1960. Lieutenant Dawe, who joined the Ist Battalion in 1960, is married with two children.-
Lieutenant Dixon, a former pupil of Christchurch West High School, joined the Army Regular Force Cadets in 1952. He was selected for the Special Air Squadron in 1954 and served with the squadron in Malaya, during the emergency, for two years. When he returned to New Zealand as a sergeant he was posted as an instructor to the school of infantry, where he met Lieutenant Dawe. They were commissioned together in 1960 and posted to the Ist Battalion at Burnham Camp. At the Colour parade in 1961 Lieutenant Dixon received the Regimental Colour from the then GovernorGeneral (Lord Cobham). Lieutenant Dixon, who is married with two children, speaks Malay and last year did a Malay-language course in Singapore.
