£5000 FOR PAKISTAN
N.Z. Gift After
Cyclone (N Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 11 New Zealand will give £5OOO for the relief of distress after the recent cyclone in East Pakistan, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) announced today He said that as soon as the magnitude of the disaster had become known he had cabled a message of sympathy to President Ayub Khan It was intended that the contribution be paid in cash to the credit of the Pakistan Government "I hope that this contribution will be of assistance to the Government of Pakistan in alleviating the consequences of this tragic event and will mark the deep concern of the New Zealand Government and people for the plight of all who have suffered in Pakistan, a country with which New Zealand is linked by many ties, including those of the Commonwealth and S.E.A.TO.,’’ said Mr Holyoake.
Presentation Watch For Long Service
Though it was work as usua' yesterday for Miss Gladys Genet, of Christchurch, there was one special difference. It was the thirty-fifth anniversary of the day she began work in the alteration workroom of Beath and Company.
In recognition and appreciation of her long record of service, the directors of the firm presented her with a gold watch.
