LYTTELTON SEAT
National Party Nominees
-The National Party’s candidate for one of the key South Island electorates— Lyttelton—will be selected on Thursday evening from three nominees.
One hundred a>nd sixty delegates to the selection committee will make the choice. For the first time, the selection meeting is being opened to the newspapers. The candidates are: — .Mr G H. Claridge. aged 57. of Dunedin. He is a businessman and deputy-chair-man of the St. Kilda electorate branch of the party. He was an unsuccessful candidate for selection for St. Kilda.
Mr T. D Flint, aged 38, of Christchurch, who has been a resident of the Lyttelton electorate for the last 15 years. He has been a member of the City Council since 1959, and is chairman of its traffic committee, and has been on the Drainage Board since 1957 He stood for Christchurch Central at the last election, when the Labour candidates majority showed the greatest reduction anywhere in the South Island. Mr I. G B Wilson, aged 33. of Christchurch, a consulting engineer He was educated at Wellington College and Canterbury University where he qualified in 1953 After Australian experience he joined a city consulting engineer's staflf and since early this year has had his own practice.
Seal at Whangarei.—A seal a little ’under 3ft long, entertained several fishermen on the Whangarei harbour on Sunday afternoon. Seals are a rare sight so far north.—(P A.)
