FRANZ JOSEF HOTEL

Work will begin this month on the construction of the new Franz Josef Hotel on a site about a mile from the old hotel, adjacent to the Waiho-Greymouth State highway
The hotel is to be completed within 18 months The price is understood to be £350.000 Ihe hotel will stand in an area of seven acres Half of this is virgin bush, which will be left undisturbed There will be four blocks The main block, with a stone work exterior, will have a frontage of 370 feet. It will contain a spacious dining room and Lounge, public, private, staff and flagon bars and a grill bar in the dining room.
From the southern end of the lounge a glass wall will permit sweeping views of the mountain and glacier. With 25 twin bedrooms with private baths in the twostorey bedroom wing in the main building and 12 twin bedrooms with hot and cold water in the residential block, there will be accommodation for 70 guests The other block comprises staff quarters, including two staff flats.
