A congregation that packed the black-draped St Mary of the Angels' Church today paid tribute to Pope John at a Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass celebrated by the Metropolitan of New Zealand <th* Most Rev. P. T. B. McKeefry). The congregation began to arrive an hour before the service was due to begin, and when the Mass started people were crowding the aisles and the back of the ehurch and overflowing into the vestibule. Those present, including leaders of the Government and the Opposition, diplomatic representatives of many countries and representatives of other churches, heard Archbishop McKeefry say that Pope John "spoke with a fearless voice, but a voice imbued with love."

Archbishop McKeefry Mid the world had seen Pope John as on* who, if trembling and afraid in accepting high office, at the same time resolutely expressed his utter confidence in God, and dedicated himself to the service of love, peace and justice.
