Russell Alleges U.S. Atrocities In Vietnam

(N Z .P.A.-Reuter—Copyngnt) WASHINGTON, June 7. The British philosopher, Earl (Bertrand) Russell, accused the United States of conducting “a war of atrocity” against Communist insurgents in South Vietnam, in a letter to the Washington “Post” published today.

He said that charges made by the “South Vietnam Liberation Red Cross” concerning the use of napalm jellygasoline and chemicals deserved international investigation. “I consider the use of chemicals in Vietnam, the widespread employment of napalm jelly-gasoline, and the obliteration of over 1400 villages, as reported in the New York Times.’ to constitute a war of atrocity.” Lord Russel) wrote. “Admittedly. the South Vietnam Liberation Red Cross is. as its name suggests, allied with those opposing the United States-supported Diem regime, but its pub

lished finding cannot be ignored since it has urged international investigation of the situation. "The use of these weapons, napalm bombs and chemicals, constitutes and results in atrocities, and points to the fact that this is a war of annihilation.” he said.

Self-Locking Car Belt

<NZ Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON. June 7

An automatic seat belt, which allows a driver or car passenger complete freedom of movement, but locks fast under sudden deceleration, is available from today for all British Motor Corporation cars. “The Times” reports. Gentle movements of the car and wearer do not affect the belt, but a sudden swerve, “crash” braking, or sharp cornering causes the belt to lock instantly, from speeds as low a two miles an hour.
