DEAD-HEAT DECLARED

Three photo - finish prints were called for before a dead-heat was declared between the New Zealand-bred gallopers. Sometime (9/1), and Conference (18/V), in the £A2IM Ipswich Cap yesterday. Both ran outstanding trials for the Brisbane Cup on June 10 Sometime, which carried Bst 71b yesterday, drops 31b to Bst 41b in the cup. while Conference, which had only 7st 111 b today, will go up to Bst 111 b. Sometime has been racing in Adelaide and Conference in Victoria. Brother Mac (14-1) kept some of the prize money in Queensland by finishing *hird a length away. The crowd jeered the judge. Mr Bill Armstrong when the result had not been semaphored five minutes after the race. Mr Armstrong said later that three prints of the finish were needed, and these had to be examined with a magnifying glass. "It was the toughest job I’ve had,” he said. Sometime had a slight advantage with 50 yards to go but Conference kicked on in the shadow of the post. After the horses passed the post, the jockey on Conference, L. Coles, called to W. Pyers on Sometime, “I beat you, Bill.” Pyers replied, “No • you didn’t. I beat you.” New Zealand-bred The Dip, favourite for the Brisbane Cup, was not at home on the small track He was always well back and finished thirteenth.
Maidenhead also was not suited by the track and was seventh.
