(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. May 31 A Sydney C. 1.8. sergeant was suspended today after detectives made the<ir report on the theft of nearly £2OOO from a safe in the C. 1.8 strongroom. The Police Commissioner Mr Norman Allan, did not reveal the sergeant's name, but he is believed to have had a long, and previouslyunblemished. record in the police force Mr Allan said: "Th.is afternoon I received a report from Detective - Superinton dent Walden advising me of the result of the preliminary investigaition into the loss of the money from the safe at the C. 1.8. z
“From what the superintendent has reported to me. I have directed the suspension from pay and duty of a sergeant of police ” Mr Allan said Superintendent Walden would submit a complete report of the theft on Monday
About £4OO has been returned to the police.
