TRAINING RANGERS
Forest Service Plan ! (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 2. A plan had' been approved for the training of young men as rangers by the Forest Service. Mr D. Bowie, told the annual meeting of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society on Saturday. When qualified, the trainees would be transferred to the various national parks and directed by the Supervisor of National Parks (Mr R. W. Cleland).
Reporting on noxious animals, he said this problem was giving concern to most xf the park boards and to the authority In spite of valuable assistance of the animal division, of the Forestry Service, a shortage of staff had ■prevented wider measure for control.
The 'authority had applied for an extra grant of £40.000 for the Forest Service and when this became available special measures would be undertaken in vital areas. In certain areas Forest Service teams were actively
engaged in devising the most economic plan to reduce noxious animals and when this had been formulated it would be submitted to the :ut'h-orities concerned for further action.
