“Inadequate Facilities”

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. May 30

“The inadequacy of scientific facilities available to police is once again highlighted by the Bogld-Chand-ler mystery," says the “Daily Mirror” in a leading article today. The article added: “This may even be the time to set up a truly independent Royal Commission to investigate police methods, appointments and facilities in this State.”

The “Sydney Morning Herald" says that one of the disturbing aspects of the case “is the suspicion of dilatoriness in the early days ot the investigation.” It comments:

“It was not until Professor Thorp, of Sydney University, offered the resources and skills of his (forensic medicine) department that any attempt was made to supplement the investigations of the Government analyst and his limited staff. By then time had been lost.

’There can surely be no doubt that the deaths were caused by some toxic substance which is either undetectable or so rare as to escape suspicion.”
