Obituary MR W. F. TRACY
Mr William Francis Tracy, who was well known in Christchurch as a soldier and a solicitor, died recently tn Cambridge He was aged 71. Mr Tracy was born in Christchurch and before he qualified in law was employed in the Customs Department. He served with the Main Body of the Ist N.Z.E F during World War I and was awarded the Military Cross Later he was a member of the Dunster Force, which went from Persia to Baku, in the Caucasus, in an endeavour to deny the use of the oil wells to the Communists During World War 11 Mr Tracy was a staff officer in Fortress Command, and he later commanded the fourth battalion of the Canterbury Regiment at Sumner He was predeceased by his wife. Mona Tracy, a well-known peer and writer On his retirement Mr Tracy went to live in Cambridge He was a keen racing enthusiast and returned to Christchurch for the principal race meetings He was a member of the Canterbury Officers' Club Mr Tracy is survived by a son and daughter.
