Field Service Scholar
An upper-sixth form pupil of Christchurch Boys’ High School, 17-year-old Roger Gaskell has been granted an rtmerican Field Service Scholarship Seven other secondary school students in the South Island have won scholarships, but Gaskell is the only one from Christchurch Gaskell is one of Canterbury’s leading junior surfers and the current holder of the New Zealand belt race championship For a year, ne will live with an American family and will attend an American secondary school The New Zealand winners of the scholarships are expected to leave Wellington by air on August 24 and meet the Australian scholarship winners at Sydney before continuing to San Francisco.
