GLASSWORKS CONTROL
Possession On Wednesday (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, May 30. After representatives of the A.C.1.-Pilkington group had inspected the Whangarei glassworks today a statement was issued that the new owners would take possession on Wednesday, June 5. Mr L. Drake, of A.C.1., and Mr R. Robinson, Pilkington Brothers’ New Zealand agent, would jointly resume responsibility for running the factory until permanent arrangements were made. The statement said arrangements would quickly be made for a technical appraisement of the plant at Whangarei by senior officers of the two companies who would report on the best means of achieving better quality and more economic production. It would be premature to say how the two companies would ensure New Zealand of an acceptable supply if window glass and a viable new industry, the statement said.
At present it was possible only to say that the technical resources of the two companies were more than adequate to achieve that.
